OKBET CAF Football – Holders Berkane manage to advance to the playoffs in the TotalEnergies Confederation Cup despite a scare from Kwara
After surviving the first-leg scare of Kwara United, titleholders RS Berkane managed to go on to the play-off stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday.
After losing 3-1 to the Nigerians last week, the Moroccans overcame Kwara United 2-0 at home in the second leg to progress on a 3-3 aggregate score.
Djibril Ouattara and Charki El-Bahri both scored goals in Berkane’s first or second half to assist the Moroccan team advance to the competition’s knockout round.
Given that the second-leg matches were played throughout the continent with some unexpected outcomes, the match was the main focus of the second round of qualifiers.
In Cairo, Fakhereedine Ben Youssef scored a hat-trick to assist Egyptian team Pyramids upset Sudanese team Hilal Alsahil 7-0 and progress 9-0 overall.
Another major winner was their countrymen Future, who defeated Kallon Stars of Sierra Leone 4-0 to qualify 6-0 overall.
Ahmed Khalil and Hmadi Labidi each scored a pair of goals to help Club Africain of Tunisia defeat Kipanga of Tanzania 7-0 at home to advance 7-0 overall.
With a 4-0 victory over Ashanti GB of Guinea in the second leg, FAR Rabat of Morocco qualified 5-0 overall.
The framing round will be watched by St Eloi Lupopo, Club Sfaxien, USM Algiers, or Marumo Gallants. will participate in the playoff, similar to Real Bamako, who qualified despite losing 1-0 to the previous champions Hearts of Oak of Ghana in Accra.
Motema Pembe and the Congolese Diables Noirs both won handily to advance while Tanzania’s Azam defeated Libya’s Al Akhdar by a score of 2-0.
On November 2 and 9, all of these teams will play the teams that were ousted from the TotalEnergies Champions League’s second preliminary round in order to advance to the TotalEnergies Confederation Cup group stage this year.
The champions league eliminated teams include TP Mazembe, ASEC, Rivers United, Plateau United, Primeiro Agosto, Royal Leopards, Young Africans, ASKO, Al Merreikh, and numerous more elite clubs, therefore the winners of the Confed Cup second round will play some outstanding teams.
On Tuesday, October 18, the draw will take place for this playoff round.
